Science Current Event

           

            The world of science is ever and expanding. As part of our studies you, as sixth grade students, are going to be expected to be aware of this ongoing expansion.  Once each month each student will be required to find an article about some new or ongoing event, experiment, discovery or invention in the world of science. You will read the article thoroughly, write summary at least 2 paragraphs in length, and be prepared to give a brief 2 minute presentation to the class. 

            The written summary and presentation should each contain the following elements:

1.     A description of the scientific discovery or invention

2.     How it applies to something we have been studying OR Why it is interesting to you.

3.     What comes next? A prediction about how the item you have discovered will influence further research or what application it might have.

4.     The source of the article and how you found it.

A copy of the source document or it’s URL should be turned in with the written summary.

DUE DATE:

Every student will be assigned to a group. Each group will be assigned a Thursday each month to present their findings to the class. These will be assigned the last week of the month before. Each student should have at least 2 weeks notice to complete this assignment for the month.
